manganese oxidase EC#: 1.16.3.3; ChemWhat Code: 1375975
Product Name | manganese oxidase |
Example Structure | |
Synonyms | CotA, manganese(II) oxidase, manganese-oxidase, Mn oxidase, Mn(II) oxidase, Mn(II)-oxidizing enzyme, Mnx, mnxDEFG, MnxEFG, mnxG, mofA, moxA |
EC Number | 1.16.3.3 |
CAS Registry Number | |
Comments | The enzyme, which belongs to the multicopper oxidase family, is found in many bacterial strains. It oxidizes soluble Mn(II) to insoluble manganese oxides. Since the enzyme is localized to the outer surface of the cell, its activity usually results in encrustation of the cells by the oxides. The physiological function of bacterial Mn(II) oxidation remains unclear. |
